AR BookFinder (www.arbookfind.com)
AR BookFinder (http://www.arbookfind.com) is an online tool where anyone can search for book titles based on authors, topics or titles of books. You can search results, add books to your bookbag and print results. The advanced search allows you to greatly narrow down searches or search for themes such as History/Middle Ages. Results will help students and parents determine if a reading practice quiz exists for a certain title.
AR BookFinder is a site hosted and administered by Renaissance Learning. With the move to online Renaissance, GPS students now have access to every quiz created by Renaissance Learning (over 100,000 currently). This site does not tell us what is housed in school libraries. Students are not restricted merely by the books owned by their respective school libraries. Books can come from anywhere such as the public library or a home library. Please visit your elementary school library if you wish to peruse their computerized card catalog.
Upon finding a book through AR BookFinder, look to see if it has an “RP” next to the column that says, “AR Quiz Types.” RP means there is a Reading Practice Quiz for that book. If it exists, GPS has access to it. RP Quizzes are the types of quizzes student use most frequently. (LS and VP stand for Literacy Skills and Vocabulary Practice Quizzes.)

What is Interest Level (IL)?
Interest Level is based on content – a book’s themes and ideas – and indicates for which age group a book is appropriate. We group content appropriateness into three categories: LG = Lower Grades (K-3); MG = Middle Grades (4-8); and UG = Upper Grades (9-12).
What is ATOS Book Level?
ATOS Book Levels are reported using the ATOS readability formula and represent the difficulty of the text. For example, a book level of 4.5 means the text could likely be read independently by a student whose reading skills are at the level of a typical fourth grader during the fifth month of school. (Of course the content may or may not be appropriate for a fourth grader which is why we also use Interest Levels.).
What are Accelerated Reader Points (AR Pts)?
Every book that has an AR Reading Practice Quiz is given a point value. AR Points are computed based on the difficulty of the book (ATOS readability level) and the length of the book (number of words). AR Points are a way of measuring how much reading practice your child is getting.
