Mission Statement

This program is designed to provide a realistic and challenging educational option to the students and parents of Gilbert Public Schools and students of other districts who are seeking alternative methods of satisfying promotion requirements.

DL PROCESS UPDATES SEPTEMBER 2009

Effective September 9, 2009, GPS Distance Learning will enroll students in online courses based on the following process changes:

  1. Students are required to take 4 courses on campus.
  2. Students may enroll in a total of 7 courses at no charge.
  3. Additional courses (more than 7, including DL courses) will be paid at the Board approved fee of $160.

REGULATION IIE-RA: Student Schedules and Course Load

  • High school students will be enrolled in consecutive periods on campus (e.g. 1-4, 3-7).
  • Students arriving or departing from campus at nonstandard times must arrange their own transportation; release time forms are required.
  • Senior students who enroll during the spring semester MUST COMPLETE all coursework one month prior to graduation.
  • Students have 18 weeks to complete an online course, unless they are senior students enrolling during spring semester.
  • An online course can be dropped prior to mid-term (first 9-weeks) without penalty. A $50 drop fee will be assessed.
  • An extension may be requested and, if granted, assessed a Board approved fee. Extenuating circumstances must apply.
  • Incomplete courses will result in an F.

2009-2010 Deadlines for senior students are as follows:

December 2009 Graduates

  • October 23, 2009: Last day for seniors graduating in December 2009 to register for a DL course.
  • November 13, 2009: BU124, Correspondence PE and ALL PROJECTS are due.
  • November 16-20, 2009: Final exams week - All finals MUST be completed.

May 2010 Graduates:

  • March 26, 2010: Last day for seniors graduating in May 2010 to register for a DL course.
  • April 16, 2010: BU124, Correspondence PE and ALL PROJECTS are due.
  • April 19-23, 2010: Final exams week - All finals MUST be completed.

Testing will also be held at the Distance Learning Office M-F 1pm-4pm daily (during the academic year).

2009-10 deadlines for 9-11th grade students are 18 weeks from the day of registration.

Enrollment Information

Students enrolled in a GPS must coordinate their enrollment in distance learning with their home high school. Non-GPS students should check with their district for distance learning guidelines and restrictions.

Tuition

  • Courses are $160 each
  • Fees must be paid prior to enrollment
  • Money Order, Check, Visa or Master Card accepted
  • Payment plans available
  • Distance Learning is not responsible for errors in course selections
  • There are no refunds once the student has logged into a course

Please follow these enrollment guidelines:

  • Review the GPS policy regarding distance learning credit acceptance and transfer.
  • Decide the courses you wish to take through distance learning.
  • Contact your school counselor to secure an enrollment form.
  • Upon completion of the form by the student and parent, return it to the counselor.
  • Counselor will assign a confirmation number and return a copy to the student.
  • Contact GPS Distance Learning at 480-507-1476 for enrollment.

Enrollment can generally be accomplished by phone. Be prepared to provide:

  • Courses requested
  • Counselor confirmation number
  • Student name
  • Student ID
  • Personal email (used to provide initial enrollment information)
  • Visa or Master Card number

Grading

  • High School students will be issued a letter grade
  • An official grade slip will be sent to the student and to the home school upon completion
  • Students should confirm with their school registrar that grade has been transcribed
